Case History - Gabe Campana
Mayor of the City of Williamsport - 2007
One of the hardest and nastiest, yet most rewarding of all our political efforts. In the Republican Primary, Councilman Gabe Campana went against an incumbent Mayor Wolf who was very popular with the affluent members of the community.
After defeating her, members of his own party, who were sympathetic to Wolf, convinced Council President and fellow republican, Tom O’Connor to conduct a write-in campaign.
This, added to the Democratic challenger, made for a hotly contested 3 way race. Campana’s monetary reserves were depleted from the primary, and O’Connor received the financial support of many of the well-to-do members of the community.
Again, extensive polling helped guide our media message, with strong indicators into what the super-voters wanted addressed. We overcame the lack of funding by dominating one media and supporting that media with moderate to limited use in other venues.
The dominant media was Newsprint - full page and Scotch double-truck newsprint ads. Supported by one week of radio, one week of digital billboard, one direct mail piece and one weekend of broadcast TV. Today, Gabe Campana is the Mayor of Williamsport.
